The values which form the basis for law have a profound impact on modern Europe. This was the topic of the House on the Rock \u201cAxiology of Law for the Europe of Tomorrow\u201d Conference, which saw many prominent researchers engage in discussion in Rome. The event was organised by the Ordo Iuris Institute and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The conference was attended by scholars from different fields, including law, philosophy, ethics and economics, and the line-up included Prof. Chantal Delsol, Prof. Christian Hillgruber, Bishop Artur Mizi\u0144ski, MEP Beata Kempa and Dr Tymoteusz Zych, as well as popular Polish publicists \u2013 Pawe\u0142 Lisicki, Grzegorz G\u00f3rny and \u0141ukasz Warzecha.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The conference was preceded by a Mass held at St. Peter\u2019s Basilica by Cardinal Gerhard M\u00fcller, and was widely covered by Polish and Italian media outlets. The speakers discussed important topics such as the influence of Christianity on the development of law in Europe, the protection of the family by international law and the changing definition of human dignity. Also discussed were methods of effectively protecting human life starting from conception.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The conference ended with a working group discussion concerning issues such as the relationship between the Church and the state. Another topic was the Convention on the Rights of the Family created by the Ordo Iuris Institute, which is an alternative to the gender-based Istanbul Convention.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe main topic of the conference was the axiology of law, which attempts to identify the connections between law and values. These values must be lasting and have a strong foundation to avoid being instrumentalised and having their meaning perverted. For us, Christian values are the foundation,\u201d says Father Jaros\u0142aw Krzewicki, one of the speakers and organisers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
