A discussion in Warsaw, Poland, on October 3 about the neo-Marxist drift in the United States, based on Stephen Baskerville\u2019s latest book \u201cWho Lost America?  Why the United States Went \u201cCommunist\u201d and What to Do About It.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The radicalization of the Left in the United States and the rapid transformation of the Democratic Party will have consequences not only for Americans but for the West as a whole. Poland, with its reliance on NATO for its security against Russia, and with its traditionally very pro-American society, should pay attention to this phenomenon that is occurring over three decades after the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe. No wonder then that the Ordo Iuris Institute, as Poland\u2019s main conservative think tank and one of the biggest legal think tanks on the Right in Europe, decided to support the publishing of a book written by an American author on the subject. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWho Lost America?  Why the United States Went \u201cCommunist\u201d and What to Do About It\u201d is the title of a book written by the American political theorist Stephen Baskerville and published by Arktos Media, a publishing house based in Budapest, Hungary. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Previously a Professor of Government at Patrick Henry College, Baskerville currently teaches at the Collegium Intermarium in Warsaw but now lives in another Central European country, Romania. His previous books include \u201cThe New Politics of Sex: The Sexual Revolution, Civil Liberties, and the Growth of Government Power\u201d (2017) and \u201cNot Peace But a Sword: The Political Theology of the English Revolution\u201d (1993, 2018).  His work is available at <\/span>www.StephenBaskerville.com<\/a><\/span>, where links can be found to reviews of the new book.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As in most countries that have experienced Soviet-style communism, people in Poland do perceive the new brand of Marxism that is taking hold of the West, coming in large part from the epicenter of the American Empire. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Baskerville\u2019s book is a must-read for all freedom-loving Americans and Westerners. On October 3 in Warsaw, the Ordo Iuris Institute will organize a presentation on \u201cWho Lost America?  Why the United States Went \u201cCommunist\u201d and What to Do About It\u201d together with a discussion on the subject topic. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The participants of this discussion will be Prof. Stephen Baskerville<\/b> himself, as well as Prof. Ryszard Legutko and Pawe\u0142 Lisicki from Poland, alongside Irishman Kevin Myers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Ryszard Legutko<\/strong> was, until earlier this year, a member of the European Parliament where he was co-president of the European Conservatives and Reformists group. A philosopher, he is also the author of many books, including one published in 2016 under the title \u201cThe Demon in Democracy: Totalitarian Temptations in Free Societies,\u201d which was much commented on throughout Europe.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pawe\u0142 Lisicki<\/strong> is a renowned Polish journalist who is also the editor-in-chief of the influential conservative Polish weekly Do Rzeczy<\/i>. As an essayist, Lisicki is the author of many books about theology and history, including one which was published in 2023 in Polish under the title \u201cThe Empire of Sodom and its Allies. Sketches on the decline of Western civilization with a note of optimism in spite of everything.\u201d In the Polish media, Pawe\u0142 Lisicki often comments on the woke, totalitarian drift that has been going on in the USA, raising the alarm among his fellow countrymen about the implications this could have on Poland\u2019s security and democracy in the future.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin Myers<\/strong> is an Irish journalist and writer now working for the Brussels Signal<\/i>. He has a long history of writing for various renowned press outlets like the Irish Independent<\/i>, The Irish Times<\/i>, and The Sunday Times<\/i>. Among other topics, Kevin Myers often writes about the radical shift of the American Left, warning Europeans of what is taking place on the other side of the Atlantic.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion will be preceded by a word of introduction on the book by Stephen Baskerville himself and also by Constantin von Hoffmeister, from Arktos. Ordo Iuris\u2019 Rafa\u0142 Dorosi\u0144ski, head of the Ordo Iuris Civilization project, will also explain why our institute felt this book is so important.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion will take place in English and will be translated into Polish. It will be transmitted live in English on the Ordo Iuris Institute\u2019s YouTube channel starting at 6 p.m. Central European Time (CET) on October 3.<\/span><\/u> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
