Health Organization (WHO) and the recently concluded unsuccessful negotiations to reach an agreement on the framework for the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing System (PABS). Reaching an agreement on the text of the PABS Annex to the Pandemic Treaty will enable WHO Member States to begin the treaty ratification process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is extremely important for the future shape of the healthcare system worldwide. Therefore, the organizer of the conference, Rimas Jankunas, a member of the Lithuanian Seimas, invited Reggie Littlejohn, an American lawyer who founded and leads Anti-Globalist International as well as Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers, an organization that defends women\u2019s rights in China, to deliver a speech at the Seimas of Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Seimas leadership blocked the hearing.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, Reggie Littlejohn\u2019s address before the Lithuanian Seimas did not take place because the leadership of the Seimas canceled the hearing, in violation of the Seimas\u2019s rules of procedure, saying that the matter presented was not sufficiently important. Instead, an ad hoc press conference was convened, during which attendees of the afternoon meeting could speak to how important this matter is and how essential it is to present information on this topic to the Seimas. They also noted the irony of the situation\u2014the blocking of the dissemination of information about events of global significance occurred precisely on Lithuania\u2019s Press Restoration Day, which is essentially a celebration of freedom of speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Controversies over Ordo Iuris\u2019 participation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>During that conference, the organizers informed that one of the reasons for canceling the hearing in the Seimas regarding the WHO was the participation of representatives of \u201can ultraconservative organization from Poland, Ordo Iuris, which opposes abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas herself, Viktorija \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen, explained at a meeting of the Seimas Presidium that she had &#8220;serious doubts as to whether the Seimas should become a platform for such an ideological conference\u2014among those invited is, among others, Ordo Iuris.&#8221; In response, the conference organizer said: &#8220;We are talking about freedom of speech, about the right to express different views, regardless of whether anyone likes it or not. We remember the Soviet era and the KGB, the organization that ensured there was no freedom of speech in Lithuania. The father of the speaker before me was a reservist in that organization.\u201d In doing so, he alluded to the fact that Viktorija \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen is the daughter of a former KGB officer of Russian origin, addressing her with the words: &#8220;Dear Viktorija, Lithuania is a free country today\u2014it is no longer under the occupation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lithuanian politicians and the debate on sovereignty<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Viktorija \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen is the chair of the Liberals\u2019 Movement, which in the European Parliament sits with the Renew Europe group and belongs to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the press conference, a debate titled &#8220;What Have We Learned from the COVID-19 Crisis?&#8221; was held in the parliament\u2019s conference hall.
