The Ordo Iuris Institute, together with the International Research and Teaching Center for Catholic Social Teaching at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW), is organizing a conference “Motherhood in the 21st Century: Support and Protection Policy in the Face of Challenges and Threats”. The event will take place on June 3 in the Auditorium named after Robert Schuman at the UKSW main campus in Warsaw. Politicians, scientists, and experts in fields such as demography, law, and social policy will take part in the conference. In addition to speakers from Poland, guests from Belgium, Germany, France, and Chile will also speak.
The conference will be opened by representatives of the organizers—the president of Ordo Iuris, attorney-at-law Jerzy Kwaśniewski, and the Head of the Department of Political Theory and Political Thought at UKSW, Rev. Prof. Piotr Mazurkiewicz. The speakers will also include, among others, Member of Parliament Karina Bosak, Members of the European Parliament—Marlena Maląg and Jadwiga Wiśniewska, as well as members of the Council for Family and Demographics at the President of the Republic of Poland—Agata Lupoměská, Michał Kot, and attorney Rafał Dorosiński of the Management Board of Ordo Iuris. Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, will also speak.
The debates are divided into three thematic blocks. The first panel will be devoted to the constitutional and legal mechanisms for the protection of motherhood in Poland, as well as effective models for supporting families and mothers. The second panel will focus on the issue of surrogacy—its legal, psychological, and ethical aspects. It will be international in scope: it will be led by Bernardo Garcia Larrain, an advisor to Chile’s Minister for Family Affairs. In addition to Reem Alsalem, guests from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany will participate. The third part of the discussion will, in turn, focus on the cultural aspects of motherhood.
According to the organizers, the conference aims to present positive examples and effective solutions in the area of motherhood that are already in place or can be further developed within the Polish legal and constitutional framework. The purpose of the conference is to create a space for in-depth, substantive debate that will contribute to building a culture of respect and recognition for the role of mothers in society.
