On Friday, October 16, the Ordo Iuris Institute will present in Lisbon the Polish-Hungarian report “Taking Back Control from Brussels: The Renationalization of EU Migration and Asylum Policies.” The “Reclaiming Sovereignty” conference is being organized by the Portuguese delegation of the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament, namely the MEPs of the Chega party. Olivier Bault, communications director of Ordo Iuris, will speak at the event.
A report on the European Union’s migration and asylum policy will be presented at the “Reclaiming Sovereignty” conference in Lisbon. The report was prepared by Hungary’s Migration Research Institute and Mathias Corvinus Collegium in cooperation with the Ordo Iuris Institute. The meeting will take place at the Orlando Ribeiro Library (Estrada de Telheiras 146) from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Lisbon time. The report will be presented in English, and the debate will be held in Spanish.
The event is being organized by politicians of the Chega party, which belongs to the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament. The party was founded by André Ventura seven years ago. Today, it is the second-largest force in the Portuguese parliament. In the latest Aximage poll, it leads with 30.7%, ahead of the Socialists and the ruling center-right.
Alongside Olivier Bault, the speakers will include Portuguese MEP António Tânger Corrêa and two experts from Hungary: Rodrigo Ballester of Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) and Viktor Marsai of the Migration Research Institute. Ballester and Marsai will present the report’s diagnosis of the situation and the solutions it proposes.
Olivier Bault will address two issues. The first is the Pact on Migration and Asylum. In his view, the pact will only make the situation worse and is yet another reason for the member states to regain control over migration policy. The second is the new EU regulation establishing a common system for the return of illegal immigrants. Although it is a step in the right direction, it will not solve the problem.
The Polish premiere of the report took place in Warsaw. At the end of October, Olivier Bault will also present proposals for renationalizing migration policy in Paris. He was invited there by the right-wing think tank Polemia.
The Lisbon conference is part of a broader project. “The Great Reset” is a proposal for a thorough reform of the European Union prepared by Ordo Iuris and MCC. It has already been presented in Warsaw, Budapest, Brussels, Madrid, and Paris. After the presentation in Madrid, Jorge Buxadé, vice president of Spain’s Vox party, stated: “Now we have a project.” After the snap election scheduled in Spain for November 29, the Popular Party will most likely need Vox to form a government.
